The intermediate shaft bearing can fail and destroy the engine. The single most famous failure mode in modern Porsche history. 2000-2004 single-row bearings are the highest risk. Retrofit is done with a clutch job since the transmission is already out. Usually none until failure. Metal glitter in the oil filter is the early warning. That's why the filter cut is non-negotiable at PPI.
