Terms of service

The services

The Walkaround reads the federal vehicle record and writes it up for one car at one mileage. We offer four things: a free single-VIN check for anyone (at /check); a per-VIN Risk Sheet for dealers; a one-time Portfolio Scan of a dealer’s open notes; and a monthly re-screen of those notes for dealers on a paid plan. Using any of them means you accept these terms. If you are using a service for a business, you confirm you are authorized to accept these terms for that business.

What a sheet is, and is not

Every sheet, scan, and free check is an estimate from the public record: federal complaints with odometer readings, recalls, manufacturer communications, investigations, and typical repair bands at a state labor rate. It is never an inspection of the car. It is never a consumer report under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and you agree not to use it as one. It is never a basis for any credit, pricing, or reserve decision, and it is never a valuation. We do not price the car and never suggest a bid. Figures are labeled with their provenance; actual repair costs vary by vehicle, condition, region, and shop, and a sheet is never a promise about a specific car.

Not a substitute for an inspection

Nothing here replaces examining the actual vehicle. For a consumer, that means a professional pre-purchase inspection. For a dealer, that means your own condition assessment with the car on a lift. Purchases, pricing, and lending decisions are yours; the sheet informs them, it does not make them.

No borrower data

The sheet works on the car, never on the customer. You must not upload, paste, or send us borrower information or consumer credit data of any kind: no names, addresses, Social Security numbers, credit files, payment histories, or anything else about the person on the note. A Portfolio Scan file should carry VINs, mileage, sale dates, and outcome flags only. If we find borrower or credit data in any file, we delete the file on sight and tell you we did.

Use of the sheets

Sheets may be shared inside your dealership and with your recon shop. You may not present a sheet as a guarantee, a certification, an inspection, or a third-party valuation, and you may not remove the provenance and disclaimer language from it. You may not resell, sublicense, or redistribute our output as a dataset or a competing service, use it to train a competing model, or attempt to reconstruct our underlying data sources from it. You remain responsible for complying with the advertising, disclosure, lending, and consumer-protection rules that apply to your business.

Plans and billing

Paid plans are purchased by payment link and can be cancelled any time. Refunds for one-time scans are at our discretion within 7 days. We give at least 30 days’ notice before any price change affects an active plan.

Accounts and access

Login credentials are for your dealership; you are responsible for use under them. Do not scrape the service, probe or overload it, misrepresent your identity, submit content you do not have rights to, or use the service to break the law. We may suspend accounts that do.

Your submissions

Anything you submit, a VIN list, a service record, a repair invoice, you confirm is yours to share. Records dropped into the free check are read once for their line items and are not kept as files. If we ever publish figures drawn from submissions, they are aggregated and anonymized: a figure and a sample size, never your name, your dealership, or your documents.

Third-party data

The engine runs on public government data. We do not control those sources and cannot guarantee their availability or accuracy; if a source changes or becomes unavailable, affected figures may change or be withdrawn.

Intellectual property

The service, the engine, and its output formats are ours. Your data stays yours: VIN lists, sheet history, and anything you send us. You can export your sheet history for 90 days after cancellation.

Cancellation

Cancel any time from the dashboard. Your history stays exportable for 90 days after cancellation; after that we delete it, keeping only what billing and tax law requires.

Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided as-is; we are not liable for purchase, pricing, or lending decisions, repair outcomes, lost profits, or costs that differ from estimates; and our total liability for any claim is capped at the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (or $100 if you paid none). Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these limits, so parts may not apply to you.

Changes and notices

We may update these terms; material changes to paid plans get 30 days’ notice by email. Questions and notices go to the contact page.
